Zaria NBA Elects Dr. Bala as new Chairman

Dr. Hassan Bala is the new Chairman Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Zaria Branch after defeating Dr. Abubakar Ishaq with 91 votes to six in the election.

Announcing the results, the chairman of the electoral committee, Professor Sani Idris of the Faculty of Law ABU Zaria, said the election was free and fair.

Other results showed that Barr. Adamu A. Lawal is the Vice Chairman with 94 votes against Barr. Emmanuel Shodeinde who scored four votes, while Barr. Bello Ishak emerged Secretary General with 56 votes to defeat two other contestants Ahmed Mustapha and Aliyu Y. Mohammed who scored 34 and 11 votes respectively.

Barrister Haliru Salim is the Asst. Secretary with 91 votes against his opponent Aisha Damisa with seven votes, while Barr. Hassan Rilwan returned unopposed as Financial Secretary.

The position of Publicity Secretary was clinched by Barr. Khalil Kabir with 88 votes to defeat Barr. Sarah Dan Malam who scored eight votes and Barrister Sabitu Ahmed emerged Treasurer with 69 votes to defeat Barr. Aisha Ahmed with 31 votes.

Speaking at the swearing-in of the new executives, Justice Rabi S. Oladoja of the High Court 3 Zaria charged them to maintain unity among the members of the branch.

Justice Rabi warned lawyers to always dress properly as the law states that at every event, not only if they are appearing in court, they should dress accordingly.

Earlier in his speech, the outgoing chairman, Barrister Hussaini Abdu (Talban Auchan) said that during his two years tenure, he succeeded in uniting Zaria Branch members as one family,

He said, within the last two years, they purchased a 10-seater bus for the comfort of Zaria Branch members while discharging their duties.

Barr. Hussaini also said that the branch has organized seminars and workshops for its members,

In his acceptance speech, the new chairman, Dr. Hassan Bala harped on uniting Zaria Branch members.

Dr. Bala assured members of building from where the immediate past executive stopped in ensuring the branch maintains peaceful coexistence
