JAMB Int. Students Admission Award: ABU wins N75 Million prize

Ahmadu Bello University has won a N75 million prize awarded by Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) as “The Institution with the Highest Number of International Students in 2020 Admission”.

The University also clinched the first Runner-up prizes of N15 million each as “The 2020 Institution of First Choice for candidates to Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria” and “The Most National Institution in 2020 Admission”.

The prizes were presented to the University by the Honourable Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, on the occasion of JAMB’s 2020 National Tertiary Admissions Performance Merit Award held in Abuja on Thursday, 21st July, 2022.

This is the third time Ahmadu Bello University is winning prizes since JAMB instituted the award in 2018.
For example, the University in 2018 won a prize of N25 million as “The Institution with the Highest Number of International Students”.

In 2019, it clinched three prizes. It was presented with a N75 million prize having been “The Most National Institution in 2019 Admission”.

This was in addition to winning the Second and Third positions as “The 2019 Institution of First Choice for Candidates to Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria” and “The Institution with the Highest Number of International Students in 2019 Admission”, respectively.
The Vice-Chancellor, Ahmadu Bello University, Prof. Kabiru Bala, received the three prizes won by the Institution from the Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, at a colourful ceremony held in Abuja on Thursday, 21st July, 2022.

Prof. Bala, who spoke at the occasion, described the JAMB’s yearly National Tertiary Admission Performance Merit Award as “quite encouraging”, stressing that ABU would use the prizes won to better the lots of the University.

The Vice-Chancellor was assisted by the Registrar, Ahmadu Bello University, Malam Rabiu Samaila; and the University Admissions Officer and Principal Assistant Registrar, Malam Haruna Ali Mohammed, in receiving the awards.

The occasion was equally witnessed by the Minister of State for Education and a number of chief executives of agencies under the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Education.

Others were the Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission (NUC), Prof. Abubakar A. Rasheed; and Executive Secretary, National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), Prof. Idris Bugaje.

They also included the Executive Secretary, National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE), Prof. Paulinus Okwelle; Executive Secretary, TETFUND, Arc. Sonny Echono; Executive Secretary, University Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Dr. Hamid Boboye; and former Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission (NUC), Prof. Peter Okebukola.
