National Association of Christian Educators of Nigeria Propose Research Committee To Improve Christian Religious Studies in Nigeria

Establishment of research committee for Regular publication of Christian papers and journals have been proposed as the solution to the Challenges of Primary and secondary education of Christian Religious Studies (CRS) in Nigeria.

The President, National Association of Christian Religious Educators of Nigeria (NACREN) Rev. Dr. Reuben Maiture gave the proposal on Wednesday at the 44th annual National conference held in Bauchi.

The National President further lamented poor remuneration of teachers, widespread apathy of CRS, absence of instructional materials as some challenges confronting Christian Religious Studies of younger generation in Nigeria.

He insisted that Christian families, the Church and the government each, has significant role to play in reviving the lost glory of Christian Religious Studies in Primary and secondary education in Nigeria.

Declaring the ceremony open, Governor Bala Mohammed Of Bauchi State represented by his Senior Special Assistant on Christian Religion Honourable Pastor Zakka Luke Magaji said, there will be massive employment of CRS teachers in the state once the embargo on emeployment in Civil Service scheme is lifted.

In his goodwill message, Honourable Iliya Habila, Chairman Bogoro Local Government Area, expressed worry that his LGA as an example currently has only 18 CRS teachers against 130 schools in the area.

On his part, the State Chairman of Christian Association Of Nigeria CAN Reverend Abraham Dimeus admonished that teachers of CRS must consider it a divine Project in which they will be held more accountable by God on how they handle it.

Other stakeholders at the event held that Christian Religious Studies is an epitome morality, and good values that must be revived through sound teaching to imbibe the right values among the younger and future generation for the betterment of the society.
