Anambra Sex Workers laments low patronage, threatens to go on strike

Sex workers in Onitsha, Anambra state have threatened to go on strike over the hardship they are experiencing as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic, petrol, and electricity tariff increase.

Miss Uto, a patron of the group disclosed that the rise has brought untold hardship to sex workers, noting that they are yet to recover from the Coronavirus which has affected their business by forcing them to reduce their service charge to N1500 for short time and N5000 for the whole night which she said was a hard decision to make.

”The Coronavirus lockdown led our members to go out of business, no patronage of any kind and none of our members was able to meet up with their personal needs,” Uto said.

The sex workers called on the government to reconsider and reverse the hike on petrol and electricity or they will embark on strike by the 1st of October.

The sex workers disclosed that if the strike did not achieve their aim, they will return to work and will be forced to increase their service charge by 200%
