COVID19 VACCINE: Reality versus conspiracy theories

By Ahmad Haruna

As the world recorded more than 1.5 million casualties and still counting, all as a result of the dreaded COVID-19 which emerged at the end of the year 2019 in Wuhan province of China, the news of Vaccines discovery is most exciting one in the year 2020.

Like all other viral diseases that has no known cure, COVID-19 is not an exception hence the criticality of investigation which resulted in the Vaccines recovery.

In Nigeria where more than 150,000 cases were recorded and close to 2000 people died as a result of the COVID-19, a large number of people in the country still doubt the existence of the disease while others are of the opinion that the disease existed but is politicized.

As the country received close to 4 million doses of the Astra/Seneca Vaccines, it is disturbing when you sample the opinion of some Nigerians about the Vaccines where even the educated ones among Nigerians think that the Vaccines are used as a warfare to control population.

This and other conspiracies that surrounded the newly arrived COVID-19 vaccine makes it unacceptable among Nigerians, and this requires Federal government to live up to expectations by educating Nigeria on the importance of being vaccinated and also to convince them beyond reasonable doubt that the Vaccines is harmless.

The federal government, the national primary health care development agency and the federal ministry of information and culture have a very enomous task of changing the attitude of Nigerians on the vaccine as they have already been brainwashed with conspiracy theories about the Vaccines.
