A presidential aspirant in the platform of African Democratic Congress (ADC) party, Mr. Chukwuka Monye over the weekend assured Nigerians that if given the opportunity in the forthcoming presidential election, his party will transform educational sector in a bid to bring to an end, strike by varsities lecturers.
The presidential hopeful who described the incessant strike by the members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASSU) as unacceptable, said the party is ready to tackle the root cause of the strike.
Mr. Monye who was speaking with journalists at a press conference held at NUJ Secretariat, Bauchi on his official visit to Bauchi, said developing education and health sectors are some of his priority areas.
“The current ASUU strike is very unfortunate situation, I am particularly someone who is passionate about educational development. Education and Healthcare are some of my critical areas of consideration and my economic transformation agenda.
“The reason why I feel a lot of pain about the ASUU situation is that we are wasting years and the time of young people and that is not acceptable. One of the things I will say at this point of time is by God grace when I become the president, transformation of educational system will be my top priority because we cannot have a huge population of youth and have a very simple education budget.”
On his presidential aspiration, Mr. Monye pointed out that, no societal development without a sound system of education, promised to come up with a fresh ideas to solve the numerous challenges facing the country.
“I know what to do to make a huge difference in governing the country, politicians must be dynamic and have a technical skills and competency to work because Nigeria is not a simple county, it is a complex and dynamic nation and required people that have the exposure to think differently and think outside the box.
“We will provide job opportunities and meet the requirements needed for security agencies to operate effectively and efficiently for us to restore Nigeria’s dignity. I have in my team a lot of technocrats and intellectuals people who can support us to deliver on our transformation agenda.”
On his part, the ADC National Secretary, Sai’d Baba Abdullahi, said the party is the best alternative to Nigeria especially, assuring that if given the opportunity, the ADC’s presidential aspirant will restore the lost glory of the country.
“ADC is a strong party in Nigeria and has everything it takes to put a Government that will be satisfied by everybody. Our party has transformation agenda to meet the yearnings and aspirations of Nigerians.”
