INTERNATIONAL YOUTH DAY 2021: Focus more on job creation – Former BYC chairman charges Govs
The former Chairman of the Bauchi State Youth Council Hon. Umar Lauya Hardawa has called on the government at all level to give priority to Youths.
12 August was first designated International Youth Day by the UN
General Assembly in 1999, and serves as an annual celebration of the role of young women and men as essential partners in change, and an opportunity to raise awareness of challenges and problems facing the world’s youth.
There are currently 1.8 billion young people between the ages of 10 and 24 in the world. This is the largest youth population ever. But 1 in 10 of the world’s children live in conflict zones and 24 million of them are out of school. Political instability, labour market challenges and limited space for political and civic participation have led to increasing isolation of youth in societies.
The Ex Chairman stated this while briefing newsmen at the 2021 International Youth Day. “The Youths are the leaders of tomorrow. As thus, the foundational knowledge delivery should be given more attention by the government. It is only by effectively educating our next generation of leaders that we will begin to hope for a better country. As they grow in this demanding world, we may do our best in providing them with the best weapon in the form of education to help them in battles they will face in the future”. As more and more youth grow in a technologically connected world, they aspire to engage deeper in political, civic and social matters, and the availability and accessibility of safe spaces becomes even more crucial to make this a reality.
Finally, “We need the technical support and we will put mechanisms that will drastically reduce the rate of unemployment in the state and turn youths to be responsible, self-reliant and socio-economics productive.”
