OPINION: Hajara Yakubu Wanka, PDP Deputy National Women Leader, A Round Peck in a Round Hole

The emergence of Hajiya Hajara Yakubu Wanka as the Deputy National Women Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) didn’t come to all discernible minds as a surprise.

As the Daughter of Former CBN Director, late Alhaji Yakubu Wanka and grand daughter of late Prime Minister, Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, Hajara possess all the needed qualities, expertise and experience to serve the party deligently .

As the former Special Adviser to former Governor Dr Mallam Isah Yuguda on Millennium Development Goals, records show that all the eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) that includes eradication of extreme poverty and hunger, achieving universal primary education, promotion gender equality and women empowerment, reduce child mortality and improve maternal health, combating of HIV/AIDS, malaria, and other diseases as well as to ensure environmental sustainability[1] and to develop a global partnership for development were all attended to by Mrs Wanka, base on her experience, and in accordance to the Best Practice approach for sustainable development.

Apart from rigorous enlightenement and sensitization programs on health education, more than fourty hospitals were constructed and renovated more than sixty health facilities across the twenty local government areas of the State, thousands of women were empowered including women from the hard to reach Communities.

School enrollment was increased to an appreciable status which allow thousands of School’s age children attending school under an enabling environment. The office also facilitates the provision of adequate Water supply to hundreds communities that were hitherto had to trek to a far distance stream to fetch water for both drinking and domestic purposes, which is very dangerous to their health and well-being.

As a philanthropist and CEO of Hajara Wanka Foundation, the Deputy National Women leader contest to represent Bauchi South Senatorial District at the National Assembly during the bye election, after the death of late Senator Mallam Ali Wakili of bless memory.

Our great party the PDP will for sure get more supports from the women folks, as the Deputy National Women leader possessed all the needed qualities and expertise to mobilised women from the grassroot

Hajara Wanka Holds a Bachelor degree in Public Administration from the Prestigious Ahmadu Bello University, married with a child.
